The lament psalms draw together desperate cries of human suffering and confident declarations of divine salvation. Whether surrounded by enemies or burdened by sin, ancient Israel's lamenting psalmists regularly interrupt their complaints of God's absence to proclaim God's constant presence. This book explores how and why such distinctive expressions of faith stand alongside each other in Israel's laments and what theological value this juxtaposition may hold for those who continue to read and pray the psalms.
