by M. M. Mangasarian (Author)

You're correct, The Martyrdom of Hypatia and Other Lectures is indeed by M.M. Mangasarian, an Armenian-American rationalist and secularist. Mangasarian was known for his lectures and writings that challenged religious dogma and promoted free thought and rationalism.

In this collection, Mangasarian's title lecture, "The Martyrdom of Hypatia," explores the tragic story of Hypatia, the celebrated philosopher and mathematician of Alexandria who was murdered by a mob incited by religious fervor. Mangasarian uses Hypatia's story to critique the dangers of religious extremism and the suppression of intellectual freedom.

The other lectures in the collection similarly tackle themes related to religion, philosophy, and the pursuit of knowledge, reflecting Mangasarian's commitment to reason and secularism.
