The Word for Today
Isaiah’s prophecy points toward Jesus, the Light who entered a world darkened by sin.
Christ did more than offer inspiring teaching. He revealed the Father, confronted evil, carried our guilt, and opened the way to eternal life. His resurrection assures us that darkness and death will not reign forever.
Following the Light means leaving works of darkness and allowing Christ to reshape our choices. His light both exposes what harms us and shows the path toward freedom.
Picture the Word
Imagine sunrise breaking over a village that has spent the night in darkness. Light reaches the streets, doorways, and faces one by one until the landscape is no longer governed by shadow.
Deeper in the Word
Isaiah 9 addresses people living under oppression and announces a child whose reign will bring justice and peace. Matthew applies this light imagery to the beginning of Jesus’ ministry.
John identifies Christ as the true Light who gives life and shines in darkness. Darkness resists Him but cannot overcome Him.
Ephesians calls believers who were once darkness to walk as children of light. Receiving Christ’s light produces visible fruit in goodness, righteousness, and truth.
