The Word for Today
Paul describes a spiritual conflict fought through truth, righteousness, gospel peace, faith, salvation, Scripture, and prayer.
The armor belongs to God. We do not stand through aggression, superstition, or personal toughness. We stand in what Christ has provided.
Each piece shapes ordinary choices. Tell the truth, receive Christ’s righteousness, pursue peace, trust God, remember salvation, use Scripture faithfully, and pray continually.
Picture the Word
Imagine ancient armor arranged beside an open Bible in strong morning light. A barefoot woman representing the church stands on holy ground nearby, clothed modestly and preparing to receive what God provides rather than trusting her own strength.
Deeper in the Word
Paul’s command begins with being strong “in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” Every piece of armor depends on God’s character and saving work.
Isaiah portrays the Lord Himself wearing righteousness and salvation. Paul applies this divine armor to believers who stand in union with Christ.
The enemy’s methods include deception, accusation, temptation, division, and discouragement. God’s armor answers these schemes with truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, Scripture, and persistent prayer.
